On November 4th, I had the amazing opportunity to volunteer at a Special Olympics Bowling Event. During the tournament, athletes with intellectual disabilities from several different counties in Maryland competed to be named regional champions. In light of the sportsmanship and camaraderie at the event, I can’t recall a time when I’ve felt more inspired. These kids were just amazing. As a local high school choir was singing the National Anthem at the beginning of the event, one boy stood up and started singing along. While I couldn’t understand him, the smile on his face said it all. I know we all sometimes tend to make life seem way more complicated than it really is but these kids taught me a very valuable lesson. These kids taught me that life can be as simple and special as we want it to be. It doesn’t get any better than that.
