On Saturday, March 19th, the employees of Far Corner came together at National Harbor, Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC. The day was crisp with a constant threat of rain. So what brought them together? The event took place to celebrate the growth of a family over the last 25 years. How so? Although starting out as “Traders’ Library”, the company has seen its “children” grow up. Traders’ Library spawned Super Book Deals, Forward Transit, Torrential Systems, and Great Sage. But Far Corner has seen its family grow in other ways. It has seen individual families grow up. Many of those in attendance weren’t married or didn’t have any children when they started working for Traders’ Library. So the Far Corner family has welcomed spouses and children into its heart. Over the years, the employees and their families have enjoyed baseball games together, crab feasts, picnics with prizes, bowling events and many other good times. But that night at the National Harbor, the Far Corner family enjoyed an elegant meal at a beautiful location. The host for the night was McCormick and Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks. The food and drink were excellent. Scott tried his hand at bartending (we have the pictures to prove it). Laughter filled the air as everyone reflected on all that has been accomplished in the last 25 years. The founder of the company, Chris Myers, tried to conclude the event with a speech about the accomplishments of the company and his appreciation for the hard work and dedication of all the employees. But one of the spouses of an employee had to add her opinion, indicating that the employees have grown into something more, into a family. So after sumptuous meal with heartfelt enjoyment, the “family” retired to their temporary “home” at National Harbor’s Westin Hotel for a restful sleep after 25 years of hard work.
