Diabetes Destiny www.diabetesdestiny.org  puts on two Extreme weekend camps each year for kids with diabetes. The goals of the camps are to promote an active lifestyle to kids with diabetes, help them learn how to manage their blood sugar while being active, and be around other kids that face the same challenges they do. Destiny brings in a team of over 50 volunteers that include doctors, nurses, nutritionists and one vice president and general manager. They rely on donations to keep the cost of the camp at $200 for the campers. Last night I helped make a presentation to the Lions Club of Bel Air on Diabetes Destiny that resulted in a $1000 donation. One of the big points I tried to make was that even individual sports (like an Ironman) require the support of many people around you. This camp helps these kids understand that they can share the fact that they have diabetes with their coaches, teachers and most importantly, their friends so they can build a strong support network.

It was great to have the support of our company when I helped out a charity I am involved with.
