My two hours of volunteer service were spent at Holy Trinity Episcopal Day School in Glenn Dale, Md. This was an easy decision for me because I have a younger cousin who attends kindergarten at the school. When I arrived in the kindergarten class, I was amused when I was introduced to the class as “Mr. Robert”. I took a seat in front of the class and each member of the class stood up and introduced them self. Shortly after, the kindergarteners had their snack time and I helped serve them, once we got everything cleaned up it was time for me to read the class a story. The class had a hard time deciding on what book they wanted me to read so the teacher had me pick. I thought back to when I was younger and the books that I used to read and right away I thought “Arthur”. They had quite a few books from the Arthur series and I ended up choosing “Arthur’s April Fool” because I though it would be the funniest. After the story, the kids went out to play while I stayed inside with one of the teachers to blow up balloons and attach them to their book bags. Once we finished up with the balloons, I went outside and spent some time with the kids on the playground before leaving.
Overall I believe it was a fun experience for everyone involved, I personally had a great time and would love to do it again in the near future. I was grateful for the chance to reconnect with my childhood through the atmosphere of the classroom which brought back memories of fun times. The kids showed me a good time through their youthful energy and enthusiasm. They seemed to enjoy my company because it gave them a break from their normal routine and allowed them to bond with some one new
